Within the Region of Molise lies the four small hamlets or villages of my ancestry.  They are Cercemaggiore, Riccia, Sepino and Gildone.  Of these villages, three of my grandparents came from Cercemaggiore and one of my grandmothers came from Gildone but the recipes listed above have traditional ties to all four villages.  Cercemaggiore is only twenty-five kilometers from Campobasso, The name derives either from Quercus Maior (meaning big oak) or from the Arabic "cerce", meaning rock. It was also occupied by the Saracens, and later, in the 11th century, by the Normans. It is today a favorite starting point for those who love trekking and horse back riding.
